I suppose I would recommend this to someone who has a greater knowledge and appreciation for authors and works from this region. It is my own lack of understanding which prevented me from fully grasping the deeper meaning of the book. The two star rating was, again, no fault of the authors. I can admire them for what they are, but taken as a whole I am unable to find a connection or greater purpose. Perhaps I need more context on the authors themselves or a more intricate understanding of the conflict and its history, but the best way I can describe my experience with this book is that it was like having a set of parts and tools laid out in front of me with very basic knowledge of their purpose or function. But I am certain that the symbolism contained within each story was largely unrecognized by me. On the contrary, I did enjoy the stories as simple narratives.

Keret, often referred to as Israel's hippest young artist, is one of the most popular writers among Israeli youth. Having now finished the book, I am none the wiser. I bought it with the best of intentions, hoping to gain some insight into a conflict which has been raging for decades. To be blunt, I didn't understand the stories within the book.
